The story of "Dojoji'l is well knovm in both Noh and Kabuki.
on the day that the great bell of the Dojoji is to be consecrated, the abbot gives the order that
women are to be forbidden access to the temple precincts. Two monks, Ichiro and Dabutsubo,
disobey, however, and invite a dancing girl and have her perform at'the ceremony. In reality,
however, the girl is a demon in disguise, and after putting the two monks to sleep, she hides
herself inside the bell.
Hearing that the bell has fallen down, the abbot hurries to the scenes realizes the truth of the
matter, and, through the power of his prayers, raises the bell and drives away the demon.
