Before modern school system being established in Japan, just before the Meiji era, children used
to study at a place called "terakoya." One child was not good at learning.I-Ro-Hal(Japanese A-B-
C), no matter how hard a teacher taught it to him. So the teacher started teaching the child aurally.
This play is the first step for kyogen players to learn how to play kyogens.
