| Sembon Emmado Nembutsu Kyogen |
This play is related to the Japanese old habit that people take care of a Buddhist statue called
''jizo,'' which is said to watch people and fulfil their wishes.
Two young men, named Thake-saburo and Ume-saburo, had not been fortunate lately. So
Thake-saburo thought of dressing Ume-saburo as a "jizo;' so that they can gain things which other
people offered to "jizo."
Their idea worked well, until shoya(a sort of landlord in old days) visited ''jizo" for his wish. He
realized that there was something strange about ''jizo'' and thought that he could correct it, by
cutting offjizo's arms or legs.
one interesting point about this kyogen is that wishes on "jizo.I can be made freely by the
players.
